We hear about the benefits of attending and supporting our SWIS ROC Teams in building community atmosphere, as well as the benefits of children being part of sports teams in general.

Mr.Youngman is a passionate advocate of sports and has shown wonderful dedication, commitment and hard work in promoting SWIS ROC Teams. Well Done Sir (I found that hard to write!)

In this podcast, we hear from Majella Dowling, who talks to us about her recent Professional Development entitled 'Play Based Learning' at Yokohama International School, Japan.

We also hear about 'Movember' as Championed by Kris Campbell.

Teachers at SWIS have been supporting this effort for the past three years, and this year the tradition continues. So don't be alarmed when you see a number of male teachers (known as Mo Bros) beginning to grow a fashionable moustache! As well, our female staff (Mo Sistas) may also be seen wearing their own costume moustaches around school. All donations welcome.

Finally, we would like to wish all members of the Indian Community at SWIS and further afield a very Happy Diwali.

Happy Double Ninth Festival 重阳节 from the Chinese Department

Vicky and Eve recorded this wonderful podcast this morning explaining the background to the Double Ninth festival in both English and Chinese.

Here is a little background to the Double Ninth Festival 重阳节

It is held on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month, Chongyang Festival is also called Double Ninth Festival. In Chinese, nine is regarded as the number of Yang (which means masculine as opposed to Yin which is feminine). The ninth day of the ninth month is the day that has two Yang numbers, and 'chong' in Chinese means double which is how the name Chongyang was created. It is a day for people to eat Chongyang cake, drink chrysanthemum wine, climb mountains, and pay homage to chrysanthemums.

We hope you enjoy the Podcast.
